The Roots of H.O.P.E.
After nearly a year of feeling inspired and called to let others know they weren’t alone, Jen Hope founded a nonprofit in Fort Wayne, IN, in the spring of 2019. Now known as H.O.P.E. for The Family of an Addict, the organization was created to provide education and support for anyone affected by a loved one’s substance use.
The first support group meeting in June 2019 drew over 65 attendees—a clear sign that families needed a space to connect and heal. Since then, the nonprofit has continued to grow, offering five in-person support group meetings across Northeast Indiana and two online meetings for families across the country. From June 2019 through April 2025, these groups utilized an earlier version of the curriculum before fully adopting The H.O.P.E. Family Recovery Program.
Each September, the organization hosts Recovery Rocks, now the largest recovery event of its kind in Indiana. The event brings the community together to spread hope, end stigma, and connect people with resources for substance use, mental health, and wellness.
